THE SEARCH FOR NIJINSKY'S RITE OF SPRING was shown on American PBS
programs in 1989-1990 as an item on the Great Performances series.
The film dealt with the reconstruction of the ballet by Millicent
Hodson and Kenneth Archer. The elderly woman you noted was Marie
Rambert, who had been called in by Diaghilev to assist Nijinsky in
constructing the choreogarphy. The ballet itself is shown as danced
by the Joffrey Ballet, for whom it had been restored in 1988.
To my knowledge the program has never been released commercially on
VHS or DVD, and this is the case for most of the PBS programs of that
era. Copies may be available from TV viewers who taped the program
off the air. Let's hope that some enterprising soul can influence the
powers that own the Great Performance programs to start releasing them
on DVD. There are hundreds of them.
