A fairly good friend of mine is "ex-Amish". ( Anyway, he was a really
nice guy, smart and fun. He told me one
of the reasons he "resigned"?? from Amish-world was that it was the
biggest
hypocrisy in the free world. That, and he wanted to go to vet school. He
wouldn't
go into detail, he didn't want to badmouth them, but it was fairly obvious
that he
was done with them. He had a pet-peeve, I remember, for correcting anyone
who used
the phrase "Pennsylvania Dutch". Total misnomer, he always said. The
correct name
for those people is "Pennsylvania German". That's what they call
themselves, and
why we say Dutch, he doesn't know, but he says they hate when people call
them
that, FYI.
