This is the Bay Area Country Dance Society schedule for the
week of Monday, March 17, 2008.
BACDS sponsors English and American traditional dances in the
San Francisco Bay Area.
This is fun, relatively easy, community-oriented dancing with
live music. All dances are taught, no partner is necessary,
and first-timers are welcome unless otherwise noted.
Admission to Friday, Saturday & Sunday dances $10; all
others $9, $2 discount for BACDS members.
Please wear clean shoes with non-marking soles.
NOTES: This week we've got two great bands from far away playing at
various
dances. The Figments is a hot young band from the East Coast, who've been
hits
out here on previous tours. Their music picks up contra dancers by the
scruff
of the neck and makes them move. The Bristol Players, in their first
United
States appearance, are a stonking young fiddle (Fiona Barrow) and
accordion
(Eddy Jay) duo who play contra, English, and ceilidh/barn dance music with
drive and musicality. The Bristol Players will also play a couple of
dates
next week.
Please note the special Thursday night barn dance at Humanist Hall in
Oakland
with the Bristol Players. Barn dance is easy, bouncy, and joyful, and
this is
a great op****tunity to bring friends who haven't danced before. This
dance
came together too late to make it into the printed calendar, so remind
your
friends; bring new dancers - great for teens!
Hear the exciting music of the Bristol Players!

On March 22, the Palo Alto contra (which has a *different* terrific
traveling
band, The Figments, is at a special one-night only location, NOT the
regular
one. See the listing for address.)
