Hey now! It wasn't me who set the conditions that 400m (440yd) diameter 
nickel-iron (AKA "steel") objects "fell from outer space onto the 
Earth," which of course implies impacting with a minimum of earth escape 
velocity.

For instance, see my co-authored paper:
Bryan, J.B. Burton, D.E., Cunningham, M.E. and Lettis, L.A. Jr. 1978 A 
two-dimensional computer simulation of hypervelocity impact cratering: 
Some preliminary results for Meteor crater, Arizona. Proceedings Lunar 
and Planetary Science Conference 9th, pp. 3931-3964.

This Barringer impactor was demonstratively only 30m diameter or so, 
nickel-iron.

Even that dinky impactor made a big hole.
