MOVE TO THE INVIGORATING RHYTHMS OF THE AFRO-BRAZILIAN SAMBA!

CLASS: Beginning Afro-Brazilian
DAY: Monday, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Time for an aerobic challenge? Cristina will get
you moving while introducing the basics of Afro-Brazilian Dance with
visualization and warm-up exercises, creative movement, rhythm, and
music. She will provide a rigorous cardiovascular workout and students
will explore the arts and tradition of Brazilian beats and have a lot
of fun in the process. Afro-Brazilian Dance is a great body builder.
It improves flexibility, enhances strength, sharpens the mind-muscle
link and mental focus. Every single Afro-Dance movement involves the
whole body!

This class is for anyone just beginning to learn Samba to more
advanced dancers interested in performing. Cristina teaches a wide
variety of Samba from the old traditional Samba of the Kabolo Indians,
to the traditional Afoxe style of Bahia, to the modern Carnival style
dances being performed in Brazil today. She returns to Brazil at least
twice a year to keep current on the latest dance steps and music, but
she is dedicated to preserving and carrying on the traditional old-
style sambas. These cl***** are lively, friendly, fast. and the music
is always HOT! Wear dance or exercise attire; jazz shoes or ballet
shoes are recommended.

ABOUT CRISTINA RIBEIRO
Cristina Ribeiro received a Bachelor's degree in Education from
Universidade Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro and a degree in dance from
The Dance Center of Rio de Janeiro, with professional training in
ballet, jazz, modern, tap, Afro, Flamenco, pantomime, piano, guitar
and acting. Cristina became the second Afro-Brazilian woman ever to
receive the title of "Best Ballerina of Rio de Janeiro" and was also
awarded "Best Choreographer" and "Best Afro-Dancer" . She has taught
over 50 courses in various forms of dance, and some of her students
have become famous dance instructors, including Madonna's
choreographer, Alex Magno.

Since 1970, she has choreographed and performed all over the world for
concerts, plays, fa****on shows, music festivals and television,
including 15 years work with Globo TV. She obtained the position of
principal choreographer for Scala Rio (one of the city's most
prominent dance showcases), and worked three years at the Tenerife
Royal Palace in Spain.

Cristina incor****ates her many years of dance training and performing
into her teaching. Her cl***** are popular due to her passionate
teaching style. Expertly broken-down, Cristina's choreography is shown
in a non-intimidating way that all people understand. She teaches all
over the Bay Area to students of all ages and backgrounds - as well as
teaching workshop and master cl***** throughout the country and
abroad.
