So since you're willing to blame them for factors outside of their
control, presumably you'll be happy to credit them when the price of oil
drops back again, due to cir***stances outside their control?

Increase in global demand (mainly in China and India) has a lot more to
do with the rising commodity price of crude oil than anything US
politicians have any control over. While Chavez is an asshat, Venezuela
has historically been a big oil supplier for the USA and Pelosi couldn't
exactly predict the Bush administration would add fuel to that fire.
Falling dollar, which will eventually impact all im****ted consumer
goods? Hmm, who passed the tax cuts that caused huge deficits while
waging an unnecessary war and led to lack of investor confidence again?
Who mismanaged the mortgage industry, leading to a meltdown of the
housing market, a worldwide credit crunch, and a major USA recession?
The current price of crude isn't sustainable since other sources like
coal liquefaction became feasible at the $70/barrel mark. It just takes
time to build plants and ramp up production. The odds were in Pelosi's
favour that she would be able to take credit for that but, surprise,
surprise, she underestimated the current administration's ability to
truly screw things up.
Yeah, the current price of gas is higher, but it's nothing compared to
the prices that are prevalent in Europe and other countries that aren't
net petroleum ex****ters.

I feel very sorry for the people that are just scraping by and who are
being hurt badly by this coming on top of the drop in housing prices,
but maybe there will be a few less unnecessary SUVs and trucks being
driven around in another couple of years.
