I think Hustle was already dying down by 1980.  But if we
"all" did it in some way back then, then it shouldn't be very
hard to find some videos to remind us what we used to
do.  There's all kinds of dancing (recorded for posterity)
on Youtube and other video sites, so it's odd that you
can't point us to some examples other than the highly
choreographed Cabaret-style dancing that's full of lifts.

where most of the steps are "straight-time" with
syncopations done to achieve new (arm) holds.
But the music isn't fast here, so syncopating or
not, or choice of figures isn't much of an issue.
